Love me do! David wooed Susan with tickets to see The Beatles in Cheltenham
IF YOU'RE looking for a way to impress someone, then taking them to see the latest chart-topping band comes high on the list.
And that's what David Hambling did 50 years ago, when he invited Susan Dangerfield to see a gig at Cheltenham's Gaumont theatre.
Only on this particular occasion, the band in question were The Beatles, who had decided to begin their UK tour in the town on November 1, 1963.
John, Paul, George and Ringo swaggered on to stage, leaving fans giddy with excitement, blasting out hits such as She Loves You and From Me To You.

It marked the start of Beatlemania across the country and was the only time the Fab Four would play in the town.
The date certainly did the trick for David.
He and Susan got engaged shortly afterwards and the pair have now been happily married for 45 years, with two children and three grandchildren.
David, who is now 68, said: "It was a very memorable occasion. The thing I remember more than anything is all the screaming.
"You could hardly hear the music it was so loud.
"Back then The Beatles had already started to make a name for themselves but obviously they went on to be huge.
"Going to see them that night was something neither of us will ever forget. It was absolutely magical."
After the gig, David was sure to escort Susan straight home. The pair were courting and back then it would not have been done to be out partying until the early hours.
"I had to get her back home for 10 o'clock. Those were the rules back then," he added.
The date clearly left a lasting impression on Susan, who was 17 at the time. "We had a lovely evening," she said. "I knew that David was the one for me."
To mark the gig's anniversary, tribute band All You Need Is The Beatles will host a concert at the Parabola Arts Centre 50 years to the day since The Beatles took to the stage in the town.
Members of the tribute act are calling on Beatles fans who were at the original concert to come along for a trip down memory lane.
Tickets cost £15 and are available in advance at www. parabolaartscentre.co.uk or by calling 01242 707338.
