Lucky escape as car plunges from bridge into path of train
THREE people had a lucky escape after their car plunged on to a railway track and into the path of a train.
The Vauxhall Vectra fell 20ft off the bridge in Southam Lane, Southam, on to the track used by the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway, landing on its roof.

The scene at the Southam Lane and Kayte Lane junction
A steam train travelling towards Cheltenham at the time managed to stop moments before hitting the car. Three people in the car managed to climb out before the emergency services arrived.
The incident happened on Saturday at 1.30pm following a collision on the bridge involving the Vectra and a Hyundai Comfort.
Firefighters from Cheltenham were called to the scene and disconnected the car battery to make it safe.
A crane was needed to lift the car back on to the road.
Passengers on the train were taken back to Winchcombe where they were put on a bus for the rest of their journey to Cheltenham.
A spokesman for Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway said that engineers would check the track for any damage but said bosses of the tourist attraction hoped the line would be ready to use without any disruption.
A 43-year-old man and a 38-year-old woman who were in the car at the time were taken to Cheltenham Hospital, where they were treated for cuts to their faces. A 14-year-old girl, who was also a passenger in the vehicle, was treated at the hospital for shock.

“@daveofglos
PC my ar$e, it's the fact that "accident" implies that no one is to blame!”

“Lord_Haw_Haw, keeping within arbitary speed limits doesn't negate any risk of being involved in an RTA and the possiblity of sustaining injuries from aforementioned incident. It's that kind of government brainwashing in relation to the 'spped kills' mantra trotted out all the time that results in people thinking so long as they're below the limit they're safe. Also this has caused a sharp decline in driving standards and a steep rise in plebs dithering along NSL roads at 40 mph posing a massive danger to others trying to make progress.
Also you'd be surprised at how cars can flip and roll at low speeds & hurdle objects.”

“@TimMessanger
We can all be "politically correct" in the use of terminology and the current "blame culture" that pervades society. I think my possible misuse of the word "accident" is much less serious that what appears to be totally inaccurate newspaper reporting.”

“@daveofglos please don't use the word "accident" as that would imply that no one is to blame instead use the word incident as TiG did.”

“Lord_Haw_Haw
Rarely do I report a comment, as often, the idiot making the ludicrous/outrageous/insensitive/provocative/racist/sexist/****phopic statement needs to be seen in his/her full glory, so that all on this site can see what a total @r$£ they are. And while I would dearly love it so that you can get 'closure', as it would appear you have an open sore, one that even counselling would not heal, I have to report to you that is WASN'T me that did such a thing. And in fact, as I didn't even see your comment before it was removed, I haven't got an effin clue what you are on about!”

“Eyeopener. The chap concerned is no longer with us. What happens in these situations is that the family express a statement that they hope individuals in a similar situation reconsider and seek help. Talking to a GP is a first step. The pain of those left behind is just too great. You seem a good sort to express concern, perhaps you can take a different view now.
On the subject of the well known criminal family, you must appreciate that the TiG staff are terrified of them. Cowardice in the face of the enemy would be the charge at a drum head court martial. But of course, the good TiG people have families they want to keep safe, totally understandable. However, it doesn't stop his Lordship celebrating privately when the angel of death shows up at that family's door, what !”

“Lord_Haw_Haw may I respectfully say, indeed allow me a few moments to bow and scrape before you appropriately; that so many commentators like yourself appear to confuse being controversial, with being insensitive.
I must admit after this bold statement that I fear that I may be called a "cad and a bounder" and asked to "name my seconds" and be called out to participate in some duel, at some godforsaken hour, and at some godforsaken locality. Lese-majesty and all that!
That said I do not think newspaper reports about suicide are appropriate moments to invite general comments. As the victims families will be inevitably upset, perhaps leaving those families with were some syrupy "we so sorry" testaments, is at that moment, better than rubbing salt in the wound?
I also find it puzzling that a when a certain well known criminal family are convicted by the courts, or suffer untimely bereavements TIG readers are not able to comment even though this is the same criminal family whose members have previously scaled, and occupied the Echo office roof! Yet when ordinary members of the public suffer untimely bereavement they can readily be exposed to the slingshots and arrows of public comment.”
