Both the hard shoulder and one lane will be closed until Easter.
The restrictions will then be lifted for the holiday period.
The Highways Agency is replacing the current steel barriers with large concrete blocks which prevent vehicles from crashing through the barrier to the other carriageway and are less likely to require repairs after accidents.
Dave Sledge from the Highways Agency said: "This is a very full programme of work."

“Its one of these http://tinyurl.com/an9soqr
with these bars on the front
http://tinyurl.com/ah9qrpy
and I feel the need for them on there for frontal protection to save my paintwork damage if any fool decides to pull out in front of me, they were fitted to the car when it was new... and as for pedestrians they should be able to see something that size coming, failing that hear it being as its got a particularly loud exhaust therefore if they want to walk out in front and hit my bull bars thats not my problem!”

“@L804XDG
So a more accurate description for the police :)
So why do you feel the need to have bull bars :) Surely they're more dangerous for pedestrians ?
Though I doubt you have any care for the fact you're willing to circumvent the law to avoid speeding tickets and potentially hurt someone on the carriage way :)”

“its not got fixing studs, its an imported Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5 evolution 4x4, the evolution does not have studs in the front due to the body kit, its got a rally spec magnetic plate on the front and a standard import plate on the back. I fail to see the need to drill a bumper to put such an ugly thing as a number plate on it, so it sticks quite happily on the bull bar! And before the anti 4X4 crowd start yes it has got road tyres instead of 4x4 tyres, no I don't drive it off road and have no intention too, I can afford to run it so I am going to keep running it, brilliant tow car too. Best bit is its cheaper to tax than an equivalent UK one because its on Q plates! Its £220 a year to tax where as the identical engined UK spec shogun is £475 per year due to the 339 g/km emissions!”

“Quite amusing because if the police saw his admission and requested his details from TiG potentially they could go and look at his car and either a) he was lying to sound big or b) he can be done for it.
@L804XDG I presume you are aware that if you have fixing studs on the front and have just 'removed' your plate (not broken off) then I'm pretty sure the police will do you for it.”

“the cameras near bristol are a joke, iv now got magnetic plates on the front of all my vehicles which come off in michaelwood services then go back on at gordano every day, im not the only one to do it, if there are people working i do the speed limit, if not i dont! I got pulled for no front plate and the police told me to get a new one because i said it had been nicked! got away with it too”

“Agree with TishWash.
If people choose to ignore the speed limit whilst the workforce are on rest periods and are doing the trip regularly at the same time of day, the one day that they are there at the wrong time, the resulting carnage could be catastrophic. People get used to travelling in a certain place at a certain time and at a certain speed. They do not pay attention - 40+mph on Royal Well & Clarence Parade in rush hour springs to mind. People complain about cruisers doing this late at night, but condone it, by their actions, during the working day. From what I have seen, the cruisers are safer (they can be heard for a start).”

“@tishwash
Absolutely correct when the workforce are present.
If they leave the reduced speed limits in place when there's absolutely no need, but the cameras are still working then most people will just see it as another tax generator.”
