Motorists are being warned of possible hold-ups on the M5, as road works commence on Monday.

The work is to deliver a package of safety and maintenance improvements between Bristol and Gloucester. Junctions 11a, 12, 13 and 14 will be affected, with work set to conclude in May.

Bridge repairs, stabilising embankments and vegetation clearance will form the bulk of the activity, but it is hoped that disruption will be kept to a minimum.

Dave Sledge, Highways Agency service delivery team leader, said: "This is a very full programme of work but with careful planning we have been able to undertake a number of schemes at the same time, which will significantly reduce disruption. However I would advise people to plan their journeys and allow extra time."

“looks like my front number plate will go missing until the work is finished due to the average speed cameras being set up!”

“Finally we appear to be seeing some forward thinking from the HA in relation to multiple works on our motorways. Several different projects to be done at the same time on the M5, and similar is already happening on the M50, where embankment and bridge maintenance works are being done at the same time between J2 & around J3.

Now we need something similar from the utility companies in our urban streets. We live in hope.”
