NEIGHBOURHOOD planning will fall under the spotlight in Stroud when a government minister visits the town to speak.

New rights offered to local people under the Localism Act will be explained when MP Brandon Lewis, the Under Secretary of State at the Department of Communities and Local Government, visits Stroud at the invitation of the town's MP Neil Carmichael on February 28.

"I am very keen to promote Neighbourhood Planning as a tool for local communities to take control of development and shape their environment," Mr Carmichael said.

He will host Mr Lewis' visit at 10.30am at the Imperial Hotel in Station Road, Stroud.

“The Localism Act is a con dreamt up by the PR men of the Tory party aided and abetted by their Lib Dem partners in this awful coalition government.

It gives local communities some bogus power over planning decisions but any local authority that makes the "wrong" decisions - ones that government don't like - won't get so much money from central government as ones that make the "right" decisions.

Ask the people of Prestbury what they think of the Localism Act after their objections to development at Starvehall Farm were swept aside.”

“Sure Mr. Pickles will let local communities have a say in planning. He can afford to let them sound off as he's scrapped the local planning guidelines that would give any teeth to their objections. Nice bit of smoke and mirrors and spin Mr. Carmichael!”
