Man, 33, is arrested after cyclist attacked

POLICE have arrested a man after a cyclist was assaulted in Gloucester.

The incident started at around 6.20pm on Thursday as the cyclist was riding along Secunda Way towards Hempsted.

He was being followed by a silver Peugeot 307 and, as they both travelled into Hempsted Lane, there was a collision between the cyclist and the car.

The cyclist was knocked to the ground and while lying on the ground was allegedly assaulted by the car driver.

Damage was also caused to the bike, which was stamped upon, before he drove off at speed.

Afterwards officers arrested a 33-year-old Gloucester man on suspicion of assault. He has been released on police bail until December pending further enquiries.

The cyclist, 33, from Gloucester, was not seriously injured, however he was shaken up and his Cannondale bike was severely damaged.
