​A 51-year-old man has been arrested after an alleged sexual assault of a 42-year-old woman in a Gloucestershire market town.

Police said an incident took place in an alleyway next to The Circle Club in Broad Street, Newent, between 11.55pm on Saturday March 6 and 12.30am on Sunday March 7.

During the incident a number of people were in the area of the alleyway and may be able to provide important information police said.

The 51-year-old man has been bailed to return to Gloucester Police Station on May 23 pending further enquiries.
