The lobby entrance to the bank was still cordoned off yesterday but the bank was open for business.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to reports of violence in a bank foyer in Eastgate Street at about 11.15pm on Sunday, December 16.

"Officers attended and a 47-year-old woman from Gloucester was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital with a head injury.

"She has  since been discharged and officers have spoken to her and referred her to all the support and counselling available from police and other agencies.

"Forensic inquiries have been carried out at the location and officers are now reviewing CCTV from the bank to establish the sequence of events."A 29-year-old Gloucester man has been arrested on suspicion of rape and bailed to attend Gloucester Police Station on February 11.
