A man was rescued by fire crews after his Gloucester flat caught fire in the early hours.

Firefighters from the Gloucester station were called to the flat in Great Western Road, near Gloucestershire Royal Hospital, at around 2am today.

Two fire crews were sent to the scene, and spent around 20 minutes tackling the blaze.

Officers described it as a "small fire", and said one man was injured and released by the fire service.

His injuries are not thought to be serious.
