Martin Horwood asks PM to welcome newly-elected Lib Dem MP
RECENT Lib Dem success at the polls showed governing parties can win by-elections Cheltenham MP Martin Horwood has told the Tory Prime Minister.
But when he called on David Cameron to welcome the newly-elected MP for Eastleigh, the PM jokingly replied he would but only "for the period of this Parliament".
It came as Mike Thornton took his seat in the Commons following last week's by-election.
He replaced Chris Huhne, who resigned his seat after admitting a charge of perverting the course of justice.

Eager to highlight his party's triumph at Prime Minister's Questions in the commons, Mr Horwood said: "Will the Prime Minister welcome the honourable member for Eastleigh and agree with me that even governing parties can win marginal by-elections if they stick by their leader through thick and thin and campaign hard for a stronger economy and a fairer society?"
Mr Cameron said: "I will certainly welcome the new member for Eastleigh for the period of this Parliament. I am sure he will enjoy making a contribution to our debates. I note very carefully the rest of my honorable friend's question."

“Do the readers call Mr Horwood was also mysteriously absent, rather than standing up to be counted, when the vote on tuition fees back took place at the start of the lifetime of the Coalition. On a jolly to ..if memory serves, South America ? at the tax-payers expense. He never publicaly pronounced where he stood on the biggest U-turn his party ever made either. So he was due to sleep out with the others was he ? ..and then backed out ? Our MP likes his comfort, he keeps his head down away from any flack and does not stand up and be counted when the chips are down. He is fairly ineffectual, but then again so was his predecessor. And I vote Liberal Democrat too.... I'm starting to wonder why”
