According to reports, measles is most common in people under 25 and causes flu-like symptoms, accompanied by a red rash.

Measles is passed on through direct contact with someone who is infected – for example, by touching or kissing them.

The MMR vaccine protects against the potentially lethal infection.

Between 2009 and 2010, 83.8 per cent of children received two doses of the vaccine by the time they were five years old.
