X Factor judge Simon Cow-ell would surely be impressed – after mischievous twin calves were named after pop celebrities Jedward.

The baby dairy shorthorns, both boys, were originally christened Romulus and Remus.

But their antics so reminded Stroud farmer Jonathan Ravenhill of the X Factor twin brothers John and Edward Grimes (aka Jedward) that he renamed the animals after them.

“The calves were just so leggy, dancing around the farmyard and so mischievous that Jonathan looked at them and said they were just like Jedward,” said Jonathan’s wife Melissa.

“They are still only days old but they have just proved so lively. The cows are in the yard for the winter but the twins get out through the bars and skip out across the fields,” Melissa said.

The Ravenhills produce organic milk, cheese, cream and eggs at Woefuldane Farm in Minchinhampton. But as the Jedward twins are both male, they are destined for fattening on the nearby common before becoming beef.

“TiG why did you delete my comment? Quote: But as the Jedward twins are both male, they are destined for fattening on the nearby common before becoming beef. Setting aside your poor command of the English language (it is considered bad form to start a sentence with but), my comment merely stated that these two youngsters will taste nice in a sesame seed bap. What's so offensive about that (unless you are a vegan, of course)?”

“I'd rather Romulus and Remus - clever publicity ploy though!”

“Nice story ; cute calves ; pity they will end up at a butchers. I almost feel guilty for being a beef lover.”
