LIBRARY campaigners have called a public meeting to discuss the High Court judgement about the county's service earlier this month.

Friends of Gloucestershire Libraries (FOGL) plan to discuss the ruling that stopped Shire Hall's cuts plan in its tracks.

Senior members of the Conservative administration have been asked to attend.

FOGL member Demelza Jones said: "Following the High Court ruling, the council must go back to the drawing board with its library plans, and do a better job of assessing the needs of service users, in particular those who are vulnerable or disadvantaged.

"We hope they take this opportunity to engage with service users in a neutral setting and with a neutral chair, and begin a constructive dialogue going forward."

The court ruled the council had not properly considered equalities legislation when planning the cuts, which include withdrawing funding for 10 libraries. The meeting is at Gloucestershire Association for Voluntary and Community Action, in Eastgate Street, Gloucester, at 7pm on Wednesday, December 14.

“This is a public meeting, open to everyone. All County Councillors have been notified of the meeting and invited to attend, not just "senior members of the Conservative administration"”

“It'll be Wednesday before you know it. I might be starting to sound like a stuck record, but maybe then I'll find out why the council stopped the mobile library from coming to Barton & Tredworth.”

“All of the people who have been so active on TiG, both for and against the library cuts, should come along and make their points. There will be a neutral chair to the discussion. GAVCA is at 75-81 Eastgate Street, the same building as Gloucester Law Centre.”
