PROLIFIC striker Ethan Moore will have talks with Gloucester City later this week as Dave Mehew continues unabated in his bid to improve his impressive Tigers.

Besieged by off-field problems, manager Mehew and his squad have blocked the threat of eviction and relegation from their minds as they set about achieving a record Blue Square Bet North finish.

Saturday's superb 1-0 win at Workington lifted the Tigers into 13th place in the table and with as many as three games in hand on the teams around them.

And far from wait and worry about matters over which he has no control, Mehew is already casting an eye ahead to next season with a move for former Cheltenham Town professional Moore.

He has put in a seven-day approach for the Cheltenham Saracens striker and will be able to talk with him on Thursday over a possible switch to City.

But before then, Mehew has the second half of City's four-day 850-mile road trip to contend with as his side head to Boston United tonight.

"I was lucky enough to be back home before midnight on Saturday – so I didn't turn into a pumpkin – but it will be 3am before I'm back on Wednesday," Mehew said.

"We were delighted with the result on Saturday, the game had 0-0 written all over it from about the third minute but we battled away and got a great result.

"We asked Steve Davies and Adam Mann to run at them and cause problems for them late in the game and they did, and we earned the penalty and the win doing that.

"It's a great way to win a game so late, especially with three experienced players out."

Of those three missing players – strikers Will Morford and Darren Edwards and skipper Matt Coupe – two have a realistic chance of being fit for the 165-mile slog to Boston tonight.

But with Edwards struggling with a persistent knee niggle, Mehew has moved to bring in Moore, a striker who has been in prolific form in the Hellenic League this season.

He will hold talks with the former Aston Villa trainee after the seven-day approach expires on Thursday and is hopeful of cutting a deal.

Mehew said: "We're not allowed to speak to Ethan until Thursday evening as Saracens have not come back to us – which is their prerogative.

"There has been a lot of talk about him and a number of sides have watched him, but we'll have to see what his thoughts are.

"We will give him a chance to show what he can do at Blue Square Bet North level and hopefully he will want that challenge."

Scott Wilson is due to hold talks with Bath City this week as he weighs up a move to the Blue Square Bet South club from Yate Town.

City hold a dual registration on the ex-Bristol City academy man and Mehew remains confident that he sees his long-term future with the Tigers.

"We'll just have to wait until Scott hears what Bath have to say," Mehew said.

"I've told him that he's best off staying with Yate for this season and then see what happens in the summer."
