Memorial to much-loved former teacher

FAMILY and friends will gather to pay tribute to a much- loved school teacher from Cheltenham at a memorial service this weekend.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the service at Dean Close School, in Shelburne Road, on Saturday in memory of former teaching stalwart Richard Padfield.

Former pupils are invited to join ex-colleagues and anyone who knew him at the service.

Mr Padfield died in April at the age of 70.

He taught at Dean Close for many years – the school where he had himself been a pupil.

He was also a fine sportsman in his day, who played hockey for England under 23s.

The service will start at noon on the day and will include hymns, prayers and personal tributes.
