SLOW down stickers on wheelie bins are Moreton Valence residents' latest move in their campaign for a lower speed limit on the main road through their village.

Families fed up with crashes on the A38 through their community near Stroud have put the signs on their bins to help spread their road safety message. The householders, supported by Moreton Valence Parish Council and MARS (Moreton Valence Action for Road Safety), are keeping up the pressure to get the A38 speed limit lowered from its current 60mph.

Earlier MARS put out scarecrows at the roadside after its members were told it was too dangerous to stand there with placards themselves.

“It is a major road but it has a speed restriction.
It would have been better to put "POTHOLE HERE" on the bins.”

“"While I feel for the residents, they also have to realise that this is a major trunk road.
It's still busy now, despite very close Motorway junctions north & south.
The road is made even more dangerous as there are numerous turnings from which HGV's appear, or slow down for. This means that cars and vans want to overtake.
They aren't necessarily speeding, but can appear to be just because they are overtaking a slower vehicle.
I don't know where the boundaries of the village are, or where the village shop, or village pub is, but I'm pretty sure they're not on the A38, so wherever they are, it should be a lot quieter there.
Sad, I know, but at least a high volume of traffic shows that we are coming out of this awful recession."”

“You have to ask if MARS is interested in road safety or tyring to reduce traffic speeds on a road with few houses.
What accidents have occurrred and what led to them?
There's no point using distraction tactics if it increases accidents amongst those who use the road and leads to more complaints by MARS.
Can they find the real cause?”
