A CHURCH worker believes he has photographed a meteor blazing a trail above Cheltenham.

Matthew Pinless, 31, from Fairview, spotted the fast-moving object in the sky while walking along Glenfall Street in Cheltenham at about 5pm on Tuesday.

He said: "I was walking along the road with my young son and I spotted this object moving through the sky.

"At first I thought it was a plane, but then I could see it was moving too quickly for that.

"I managed to grab my phone and take a photograph, but it disappeared behind a cloud and never came out the other side.

"I don't subscribe to the UFO theory, so I am fairly sure it was a meteor, but I would be interested to hear if anybody else saw it in the sky."

“I was at Maslins beach Thursday night/Friday morning. Where I sighted 11 shooting stars. The last one I saw was an object that appeared larger than the one pictured here. Sighted at approximately 2 AM, travelling in a south-easterly direction. probably completely unrelated, just thought it was interesting”

“Don't forget most objects are falling into the orbit around the sun due to it's higher gravity well. unless a meteor was on a direct course to hit the planet the odds are it would skip across the hemisphere. If you watch any of the NASA missions returning to Earth they skipped across the outer envelope till they lost enough forward speed to allow them to fall to earth. There is tonnes of stuff flying around in space and when it hits the atmosphere it would make a fire ball many times it's own mass. Google it up if you don't agree.”

“Ladies and Gentlemen can you all look this way.

    (blinding flash)

You have not seen a meteor or even an satellite, it's just a tawdry filler on a slow news day.

    Thankyou”
