Mila stands the heat
Mila Hurst is braving five metres of red hot embers in memory of her husband.
The 60-year-old from Gadbury Newland, near Tewkesbury, will walk barefoot across the embers in aid of the Cardiomyopathy Association.
The former special needs advisory teacher is taking on the challenge in memory of her husband Reg, who died four years ago from health problems related to cardiomyopathy, a condition which affects people of all ages and is often inherited.
Mila will join other supporters in tackling the embers, which will reach temperatures of 800C, on September 25 at Newlands Park at Southam, Cheltenham.
She said: "It won't bring my husband back, but I'm sure that increased awareness and funds can help improve or lengthen the lives of other people with the disease."
The fire walk is being run by specialist fire walking company Survivorbility.
Anyone wishing to join in for the Cardiomyopathy Association should call the charity on 01494 791224, or email celia.bp@cardio myopathy.org
There is a deposit of £30 and every walker is asked to raise at least £100 in sponsorship. They should register before September 14.
