Gloucester snooker star Rob Milkins was today set to find out who he will play in the second round of the Grand Prix in Glasgow.

Milkins earned his place in the draw with a 5-1 demolition of world number five Ali Carter.

"Ali's a great player, he's been in a world final and done really well in his career, so it was a good win," said Milkins.

"It's up there with the best. I beat Matthew Stevens when he was at the top of his game, but this was probably the best win I've had."

Milkins, who reached his first quarter-final in four years at last season's Bahrain Snooker Championship, looked in confident form as he took the opening frame with runs of 56 and 43.

Sporting a pink-backed waistcoat, shirt and bow tie to raise awareness of Breast Cancer Care's pink Fridays fundraising campaign, he had a run of 47 in the next, but Carter claimed it to level the score.

Carter was scoreless in the third frame after a break of 55 from Milkins, who extended his lead to 3-1 at the interval.

After the break Carter was unable to stop the rot and Milkins claimed the two frames he needed for a place in the second round, with those matches to be played tomorrow and Thursday.
