Mitcheldean parking fees decision delayed
Tempers flared after plans to make Mitcheldean car park free once again were derailed.
A motion to scrap fees at the district council car park in Mitcheldean was agreed at full council in December, meaning it was taken to cabinet for members to decide.
Initially calls were made to make the car park free after businesses nearby reported a heavy reduction in footfall.
However, hopes of the car park being free once again were dashed by Patrick Molyneux, leader of the Tory-led authority.

He said: "This isn't a decision to be made here in isolation.
"I suggest we delay the decision until July when we will discover the outcome of the community impact assessment.
"At least then it will have been a full year since the charges were introduced, so we will have a better view."
This prompted an angry response from councillor Paul McMahon (L, Coleford East). He said: "You are putting two fingers up to the rest of the councillors.
"The cabinet might as well be on their own, they are ignoring the rest of us councillors, even though this got voted through at full council."

“so the shops are loosing trade just so the lazy council could squeeze and extra 20p out of parking charges in waiting to say ok. This is why our country is going downhill due to people not being any good in the jobs. over paid council staff for one. most who use the small car park nip into the doctors, so when a parent has a child ill and they got run to meter to pay then back to car to sort child out is wrong, most who use the few shops just park out on road causing probs for others.”
