Model railroaders on track for charity cash
HUNDREDS of miniature train enthusiasts rolled into Stonehouse Town Hall to help raise £500 for charity at the third Model Railways Show.
The money was drummed up for the Elms Nursing Home in the town.
Model railroader and organiser Alan Postlethwaite was pleased with the turnout.
He said: "We raised a lot of money for charity. The nursing home is delighted."
The event attracted more than 300 people with its main model railway and three supporting layouts which children were allowed to operate.
Both Mr Postlethwaite and Stonehouse town mayor Coun Mattie Ross believe the show is great for the community.
Mr Postlethwaite said: "It's a local show for local people to enjoy."
The mayor added: "This popular exhibition is one of a number of events the town council is promoting throughout the year to raise the profile of Stonehouse."
