MONT de Marsan prop Morgan Phelipponneau has been banned for four weeks for punching Gloucester tighthead Shaun Knight twice in the head.

Phelipponneau pleaded not guilty at a hearing in Dublin yesterday, but lost his case and will be out of action until Monday, February 18.

The 23-year-old front-rower struck Knight twice in Gloucester’s 36-16 Mont de Marsan victory in the Amlin Challenge Cup last weekend.

Independent judicial officer Mark McParland imposed the four-week sentence, the hearing called after Gloucester lodged a citing complaint after Saturday’s match.

Kingsholm boss Nigel Davies told the media Knight had been ‘kicked twice in the head’ immediately after Saturday’s game.

Knight was face down on the Kingsholm turf following a collapsed scrum when he was struck, so had assumed he had been kicked – hence the confusion.

Gloucester were pulverising Mont de Marsan at the set-piece, and the Frenchmen lost their cool.

The Cherry and Whites were grinding towards a second-half penalty try at the time, but instead settled for two quickfire Henry Trinder tries that sealed the victory – and their home draw against Biarritz in the Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-finals.

“When the Premiership starts up again we need to get our first choice tight head, Rupert Harden, back playing for Gloucester as a matter of urgency. We don't want to be going up against Saints with the weakened scrum we have had to put up with over the past few weeks.”

“Gordon_P aka Django_G aka graybaggs aka peh45 aka akadau aka Glawsteruk1 aka Ruckandroller aka Kap721 aka flanker_6 aka GlosRugbyMan.... It is all just the one person who happens to hate Rupert Harden because Harden has consistently been the best tight head at Gloucester thus proving how clueless the troll is.”

“We can well do without our scrum disastrously folding as it did in that last scrum against Sarries. That is why we need Rupert out on the field in the game against Saints in the Premiership.”

“The fact is, Nigel Davies, our astute and knowledgeable DoR at Gloucester Rugby has made Harden his first choice tight-head, selecting Harden to start 9 Premiership games in the first half of the season. Says it all, really.”

“Rupert Harden owns the tight head spot.”

“Rupert Harden has 9 starts in the first half of the premiership for Gloucester this season, plus another two. That makes him the top rated tight head at Gloucester in anyone's books (except for the sad troll Django_G/absolam/akadau/graybaggs/Kap721 who is pretty clueless about everything, really).”

“Rupert Harden is an utterly brilliant tight head and Nigel Davies knows it, hence 9 Premiership starts before his injury.”

“That was another embarrassment that we failed to push Mont de Marsan over their own try line when they were a man down with one of their front row in the sin-bin. You just know that that would never have happened if Rupert Harden, our best and most talented tight head had been scrumming down for Gloucester at the time.”

“If only Rupert Harden had been playing against Mont de Marsan we wouldn't have struggled in the scrum and we wouldn't have failed in the attempted push over try.”

“We all know that Rupert Harden is the DoR's first choice and the ND knows what he is talking about. He knows that Rupert Harden is Gloucester Rugby's best and most talented tight head. Of that, there is no doubt.”
