GLOUCESTER CITY 2 VAUXHALL MOTORS 1

GLOUCESTER City came back from a goal down to extend their winning run in 2012 against a physical Vauxhall Motors side.

Will Morford edged ahead of Darren Edwards to become Tigers' top scorer of the season so far in a game where both strikers could have bagged a hatful.

Rusty after three consecutive Saturdays off, Gloucester were still asleep on six minutes when Scott Phelan's corner for Vauxhall was miskicked by Cole Stockton then smashed past Lewis Carey by Craig Mahon.

With most of the action in the midfield, Darren Mullings and Tom Webb worked hard in the first 15 minutes to edge City back into the game.

Morford headed the ball over the bar on 20 minutes before Adam Mann shot wide.

Mullings went close before the half-hour mark with a thundering shot.

Carey was forced into a decisive block from Stockton on 28 minutes as the visitors remained a threat.

City drew level on 36 minutes after breaking quickly from clearing a Vauxhall corner.

Mike Green found Edwards and he sneaked past his markers and laid a sublime pass to Morford to slam the ball past Scott Tynan for his 15th goal of the season.

Webb scuffed a chance for a second City goal just before the break, through on goal after another beautifully weighted pass from Edwards, but the City skipper fumbled the ball pas the post.

Gloucester piled on the pressure in the second half and when Mann tried to poach a Morford cross from Edwards on 50 minutes it showed just how hungry the youngster was for a goal.

Edwards didn't look impressed but recovered enough to make his own mark on Tynan with a blocked shot on 63 minutes and a thundering header on the 66-minute mark only just stopped by the heavily tattooed Motors keeper.

Mann, who almost matched the tireless Webb for energy, finally got his goal 20 minutes later with a powerful shot which Tynan stopped then spilled into his own net.

Gloucester could and possibly should have had more goals but Matt Lock, Edwards and Morford couldn't find the target.

The win took City within striking distance of the top ten ahead of the long trip across the country to Boston.
