David Mehew's men have now gained 16 points out of a possible 21 in 2013, the third best amount in the Blue Square Bet North.

Morford's header had put the visitors into the lead, but a clinical effort from Jamie Cook equalised for the Hoops.

Then, with time running out, the Tigers pushed forward and Morford's weak shot evaded goalkeeper Matt Ingram, and despite the best efforts of defender Adam Learoyd, saw the ball creep just over the line.

The home side had started the better and were close to opening the scoring, but Mark Bell's deflected effort went just wide of Mike Green's goal; a lucky escape for the Tigers.

The Hoops continued to open well but Felipe Barcelos' superb pass to Ashan Holgate came to no avail as the striker chipped poorly into Mike Green's arms.

This was followed by a woeful attempt at a chip by Oxford striker Josh Mulvany.

The breakthrough in the 19th minute, when a pass from defence found Lewis Hogg on the edge of the area who shot into Ingram, but the keeper's deflected save fell to Morford who headed in from close range.

The goal spurred the Tigers into life as they continued to attack with menace, but chances for Jack Harris and Tom Webb went wide.

City continued in a similar vein going into the second half; the ever-sprightly Danny Andrew proved too much to handle for the Oxford backline as he bombarded the penalty area with ball after ball.

Andrew went close with a free kick from the right hand side, but, with the keeper beaten, the ball sailed inches over the bar into the City supporters behind.

The Tigers came even closer minutes after; great work from Morford saw the ball fall to the feet of Adam Mann 15 yards out, but the winger snatched at the shot and the ball flew over.

Oxford capitalised on these wasteful chances with 20 minutes remaining. A quick free kick taken from the right found substitute Jamie Cook free in the box and he finished with aplomb; a sucker punch in a game City had dominated.

David Mehew's men went up a gear, but chances from Andrew, Mann and Webb all were well stopped by the Hoops defence.

However, City finally converted four minutes from time; a brilliant piece of interplay between full back Mike Green and Morford found the striker to the left of the goal, he shot fairly weakly but it managed to pass through the keeper and onto the line where Learoyd attempted to clear; but the linesman confirmed it had crossed the line to the jubilation of the City faithful behind the goal.

The victory puts the Tigers eight points from the play-off's with games in hand on most of their rivals.
