TOWN squares and village streets may be the normal setting for a traditional Morris dance.

But 53-year-old heating engineer swapped his county stage for the steps of an ancient Peruvian city.

Kevin Passey, Squire of The Forest of Dean Morris Men, has recently returned from Peru, where he took part in a seven-day trek in the Andes to the ancient city of Machu Picchu.

And the Morris dancer also managed to fit in a quick jig on the steps of the city.

A spokesman for the group said: "After a very steep climb, you are treated to a magnificent view of the city perched between two mountains. At this point, Kevin changed into Forest of Dean Morris kit and danced a solo jig."

Kevin made his trip to raise money for the Wildlife Heritage Foundation.

“Kevin Passey is to be congratulated on his achievement of completeing a very difficult trek in Peru for a good cause. What is incredible is that he had sufficient energy left to dance a jig! Well done!”

“Amazing! people in Peru minding their own business then subjected to such a ridiculous spectacle. Whatever did they do to deserve that? Bad enough thet we should have to see these idiots jumping around always doing the same steps to the same tired old music.”
