JUNIOR players from Gloucestershire put up a strong showing at the Cheltenham Open at the East Glos Club.

The tournament is part of the LTA Regional Tour and attracts players from the South West and beyond.

East Glos have hosted the tournament for many years and this year saw an entry level of more than 340 players in singles events.

The unsettled weather did not affect the quality of play and Gloucestershire players rose well to the challenge.

Highlights were provided by Matthew Morrow, Suzie Carter and Finlay Dagnall, who were victorious in their respective age groups at their home club.

Morrow's success came in the 18-and-under age group, which is the tournament's blue riband event.

Carter and Dagnall completed a double for the club in the eight-and-under competition. Another East Glos member to distinguish himself was Joel Price, who reached the semi-finals of the 14-and-under category.

Gloucestershire were represented in the later stages by Lillie Owen (18-and-under girls finalist), Olivia Horn (16-and-under girls finalist), Megan Webb (14-and-under girls finalist), Rhodri Atkinson (12-and-under boys finalist), Maian Minnaar (ten-and-under boys finalist) and Josh Gordon (eight-and-under boys finalist).

Tournament organiser Simon Corbishley said: "What we have seen this year is a positive sign of the improvements being made by Gloucestershire players."
