Morse has potential to eclipse previous stars

WING wizard Josh Morse looks like being the latest star to roll off the successful Cirencester Academy production line.

In fact, Cirencester Town boss Brian Hughes believes that the left winger has the potential to be better than previous Academy graduates James Constable, Chris Zebroski and Matt Green.

The promising teen made his Centurions debut at Evesham United two weeks ago and has played the next two games, including last weekend's 1-0 win over league leaders Hungerford Town.

Morse will be expecting to make his first home start for the Centurions against Yate Town tomorrow as Cirencester look to extend their push for the play-offs.

"Josh has come in and done very well in the past few weeks and bringing players like him into the team is what this club has been about for the last 20 years or so," Hughes said.

"He's not the finished article yet and he's learning his trade.

"He's a bit different, but you don't get many left-footed wingers and the early signs are that he's got some massive potential.

"Where he goes will be up to him, because technically he's better at his age than James Constable and Chris Zebroski were.

"But with James – he had a burning passion to be a professional footballer and that saw him get to the level he is now.

"I had a chat with Josh recently and he's a nice kid but I told him that he needs to knuckle down and work to make that ability shine through.

"If he shows the same attitude as James then he will get there, but I had never seen anyone at our level with the passion that James had to prove people he could be a professional."

While Morse has taken the plaudits at the front end of the side, at the other end of the pitch and the age spectrum goalkeeper Glynn Garner is also earning rave reviews.

The former Welsh international joined the Centurions at the start of the year and has played a major part as Hughes' men have tightened up at the back.

Garner was beaten by a last-minute bolt from the blue as North Leigh claimed a 1-0 success on Tuesday night, had he not conceded it would have been three consecutive clean sheets.

"Glynn has been everything we had expected," Hughes said. "He's a great goalkeeper and more importantly he's a great organiser at the back because he never stops talking.

"He's thrown himself into the club as well off the field and mixes superbly with other lads and we're delighted to have him.

"It's no secret that we've firmed things up since he arrived and to be honest it never looked like North Leigh were scoring on Tuesday night, until a 95th minute goal from nowhere.

"Had we got the clean sheet that would have been three in a row away from home and that shows a marked improvement from where we were a few months ago."
