The busy road was blocked in both directions following the incident, which took place around 8am.
One motorist, who was on his way past the scene moments after the crash took place, described the scene.
"Both vehicles were on their sides and there was debris all over the road," he said. "There were firemen running around the scene and you could tell it was bad."
Police want a white van driver who may have seen the incident to contact them. Witnesses should call police on 101, quoting incident 52 of September 14.
