A DESPERATE mum stopped giving her 15-year-old son pocket money to prevent him from buying drugs.

But police found £25 worth of cannabis inside his T-shirt when they searched him on June 15 and they then discovered a 'bong' for smoking the drug at his Stroud home.

The teenager pleaded guilty to possession of a Class B drug, when he appeared before city youth magistrates.

Prosecuting solicitor Peter Ashby said: "Police in the Paganhill area saw four youths on a bench acting suspiciously.

"They were searched for drugs and traces of cannabis were found on the ground.

"Officers then found a silver wrap containing cannabis inside the defendant's T-shirt.

"When they searched his home they found a bong, which is a device for smoking the drug.

"When he was arrested he told the police in interview that he smoked cannabis most days because it made him feel relaxed and chilled out.

"He has received a warning for possession of cannabis and a referral order in March for burglary."

A youth offending service spokesman said: "His referral order is going really well and he has been attending well."

The defendant's mother said: "I feel very sad at his behaviour and I have stopped his pocket money in an attempt to stop him buying drugs."

Defending solicitor Lisa Ellis added: "Things are improving and it would help if substance misuse was made part of his referral order."

Magistrates agreed and extended the order by two months.
