COLOURFUL performers brightened up a rainy Boxing Day for families today.

The traditional Mummers show took place outside Gloucester Cathedral from noon.

It featured 'goodies' Father Christmas, Robin Wood, King George and the Doctor and 'baddies' the Turkish Knight and Beelzebub.

The Gloucester Play has been performed by The City of Gloucester Mummers since 1969 to mark the death of the old year and start of the new.

"It's wonderful they came along.

"We want to keep this tradition going as it may be a bit silly but it's worth preserving."

A collection was held for cathedral funds.
