Muscle mum Kelly Bluett taking the bodybuilding world by storm
IT’S not uncommon for new mums to want to get back in shape and lose their baby body.
That was how Kelly Bluett, 31, from Drybrook, felt after the arrival of her second son Lucas 14 months ago – so much so she became a bodybuilder.

Within a year of Lucas’s birth, she was on stage in her first bodybuilding competition, coming sixth overall in the UK Drug Free Bodybuilding Association’s UK Championships last October, and has caught the bug.
“Lucas was 9lbs when he was born, and I was huge,” she said. “I had an interest in it anyway because my husband is a bodybuilder and personal trainer too so I decided I wanted to do it.”

She was up and walking within four days of Lucas’s birth and built up her physique gradually from there.
“I had decided on a competition that was later in the year so I had a bit more time,” said Kelly. “It started with a 14-week ‘bulk’ programme where you eat whatever you want and lift quite heavy weights in the gym, then there’s another 14 weeks where you pay much closer attention to what you eat and start cutting out carbohydrates.
“I think people thought I was a bit crazy and my mum had concerns about me getting down to the body fat level.
“I came home from the competition that night in October and our oldest boy Jacob couldn’t believe it. He had never seen me with all the tanning oil on and he was completely amazed.”
Kelly has always been fit, having been a keen distance runner through her teens and early 20s, even running in a 5km race at 31 weeks pregnant.
But bodybuilding was a new adventure and one she said she wants to continue.
“I thought my biggest problem would be getting up on stage and having the confidence to do it but all the other ladies are so supportive,” she said. “A lot of women don’t like going to the gym and lifting weights but I would really emphasise it’s worth it, it makes you feel great.”

“Raiderman, I wouldn't mind her build at all, just a little less muscle and a bit more tone. But I still ain't in too bad a shape for my advancing years !!”

“Never could understand with the obsession with the mahogany look! Is it something to do with highlighting the muscle definition ie, when oiled up makes it easier for the judges so see what they've got?”

“I'm thinking that she herself approached TiG, so there is the narcissism aspect.
If that's the case, then she will expect views, either way.
I have said I PERSONALLY don't find it attractive, but in the next line I applaud her dedication and application.”
