The Echo helped parents Jaime and Phil Green, from St Mark's, launch an appeal for the funds and, within hours, the person contacted us, offering to provide the cash.

Ben, who attends Bournside School when he is well enough, celebrated the news with his parents and eight siblings.

"I want to say thank you to whoever has donated the money," he said.

"I can't wait to get over there. It's going to be a lot of fun."

Jaime, who gave up her career as a trainee accountant to care for Ben full time, was overcome with emotion.

The 35-year-old said: "We never expected this to happen – it has left us in a state of shock. "Ben has been through so much. His life has been spent in and out of hospitals. Finally it's great that something has gone his way.

"We are so, so grateful to whoever has donated the money and thank them from the bottom of our hearts.

"It will give Ben memories he will never forget."

Ben's young body has been ravaged by the cystic fibrosis.

He weighs just five stone and struggles to digest enough food to survive.

His diet is supplemented by a cocktail of tablets and he often has to go to hospital to have his body pumped with nutrients.

He was diagnosed with the debilitating genetic condition when he was just two weeks old.

It means his lungs and digestive system get clogged with mucus, making it hard to breathe and digest food.

But despite everything, he has never lost his fighting spirit and it has long been his dream to go to Orlando.

We are still continuing the campaign to give Ben a holiday to remember to raise enough to give his family spending money.

To play a part in making Ben's dream come true, contact Jaime via email on jaimergreen77@hotmail.co.uk or call the Echo on 01242 278091.
