NATIONAL support is needed for a new internet petition against Gloucestershire's incinerator, campaigners are arguing.
The e-petition has launched on the Government's website calling for the incinerator plans for Haresfield to be blocked.
Organisers hope 100,000 people will sign it so that the Government will be forced to discuss Gloucestershire County Council's plans to get Urbaser Balfour Beatty to build the £500million burner.
Diana Shirley, spokeswoman for campaign group Glosvain, said: "It is hoped that the e-petition will gain national support because the proposal to build a large scale waste incinerator at Javelin Park is of national importance."

The petition was started by resident Plum Sykes and yesterday had just eight signatures. Steve Goodchild, spokesan for the Gloucestershire Friends of the Earth Network, said: "We believe strongly incineration is a poor option." Barbara Farmer, from campaign group SWARD, said: "We are appalled that Gloucestershire taxpayers could be paying for this outmoded technology for 25 years."
