National Farmers Union launches a campaign to support local butchers.
The Citizen continues to back our butcher's campaign as the National Farmers Union launches a Buy British campaign to voice the message that they have the highest standards for fresh, British food.
Shoppers are being reminded to look out for the Red Tractor farm assurance logo, which stands for independently inspected food, traceable from farm to pack.
These methods are in response to the latest scandal that horsemeat is being passed off as beef in frozen foods.

“Judas, Higher prices for horsemeat applies only where the animals are reared exclusively for the table in authorised farms as found in the south of France. Prices for the meat of any old nag, mare, pony or donkey from 'who knows where' is around one fifth of the price of beef.”

“On the continent, horse meat is more expensive than beef. Why on earth would 'criminals' deliberately replace beef with horse meat? Its like someone offering gold plated jewellery and deliberately ensuring that they are solid gold.”
