The Parish of

Baunton was the first recipient of trees from the Cotswold Tree Warden Group's

planting fund.  The Parish were able to successfully provide three locations for a

tree to be planted. The trees which are of excellent quality  - Silver Birch, evergreen Oak and  small-leaf Lime - were supplied by Barry

Wellington of Elmcroft Tree Nurseries, Newent.

The funding for the project came from the Waitrose 'green token'

scheme and is greatly appreciated by the Group and recipients of the trees.

Bryan Reid, Tree Warden for Baunton said " I believe that events

like this are important in that it is good for the parish, good for the

environment and also continues to emphasise to the public at large the

necessity for increasing the numbers of trees in the countryside as a whole. As

a result of the support provided by the Cotswold Tree Wardens Group over the

years, there are numerous plantings around the parish, many of which are now

becoming mature and splendid species, including a cutting taken from a 2000

year old yew tree for the millenium which is in the churchyard, the tree on the

village green and a chestnut in one of the fields which provides shade for

animals in the summer".
