New £1.5million Gloucester Quays gym set to open
MORE than 4,000 people are expected to sign up to a new £1.5million gym at Gloucester Quays.
The Peel Group is forging ahead with the development of 'The Quayside' – its new £60m leisure and shopping quarter at Gloucester Quays – with confirmation this week that fitness group The Gym will open by the end of December.

The Gym has 23 outlets in the UK with a further 18 in the pipeline. Its gym at The Quayside will be a 16,000 sq ft facility costing £1.5m.
Jason Pullen, managing director at Gloucester Quays, said: "We're keen to provide visitors with a selection of quality attractions and we believe The Gym is the perfect addition to the mix of retailers, restaurants, shops and the cinema we have planned for The Quays."

There will be seven days a week, 24-hour access, via a keypad and it does not tie members into contracts, instead charging monthly, with prices starting at £10.99. John Treharne, chief executive of The Gym Group, said: "We're extremely excited to be bringing low-cost, quality fitness to Gloucester Quays.
"The Gym will fit in perfectly with the range of shops and leisure facilities planned at The Quayside – helping to bring more people to Gloucester Quays from the city and wider Cotswold area."
More than 4,000 members are expected to join and there will be 170 pieces of equipment on offer.
The Gym is the second high profile leisure group to sign up to The Quayside, following Cineworld which is set to open a 1,600 seat, 10-screen cinema.

“I will stick to using "The Gym" on Bristol Road (near the Ford Garage) costs me £20.00 a month, 9-4 weekdays,9-6 at weekends, free parking (or cycle storage if I need it), which works out at £1.00 a session if I go 5 times a week, a good deal in my eyes!”

“@ SandraPee - their website suggests £10.99. You can now sign up but I haven't yet found out what facilities it actually includes. Seems to be just various machines and weights. "We've proved that joining a low-cost gym still means access to plenty of high spec gym equipment. At The Gym you'll find at least 170 pieces of equipment and free weights. We're also pleased to tell you that we've created about the greenest Gym going: 70% of our machines use no electricity whatsoever – they're powered by you. ... Please note: The above equipment may not be available at every site. *Dumbbells only go up to 30kgs."
@ honslknjklyt - I very much doubt the facility will include a swimming pool - there's not been any indication that a pool would be in this building and it's not something you can easily retrofit - certainly not in two months.”

“This is such a good idea. If it's truly 24/7 it'll be great for me. Not many people want to go to the gym at 3am on a Sunday morning, but it'll fill a gap that's been very difficult to find something constructive to do for me!”

“I do love the idea of pay as you go. I would love that for swimming but find the public swimmming baths timetable far far too restrictive, time like quarter past the hour until 5 to the hour, or daft whatever it is, closed for lunch etc.
I work and work long varied hours and may go swimming once a month, or twice at most. It is not worth paying for contract where I am tied to it for a year and paying for all the other facilities I would never use.”
