Now a Boots spokesman said: "At Boots UK we continually look at convenient locations for new stores where we would be of most benefit to the local communities we serve.
"We can confirm that Quedgeley is one of these locations we are currently investigating."
They said details of when the store will open will emerge before Christmas.
Community leaders have welcomed the news. County councillor Jackie Hall (C, Quedgeley Fieldcourt) said: "It is excellent news. They had already indicated that they wanted to come to the site so it is good to hear that this is looking more likely."
Barry Kirby, chairman of the Kingsway Residents' Association, is hopeful it will attract other big names to the area.
He said: "The project should increase the economic value of the area."
Planning permission was granted to demolish units three to six, which house the former Blockbuster store, to pave the way for a 1,301 sq m floor space for Boots.
There would also be a new vehicular access onto Valley Gardens and the area would be landscaped.
The store itself would boast a mezzanine floor, giving plenty of choice for consumers.

“Great! Yet another reason NOT to have to pay rip off parking charges in the city centre... soon the pound shops will move out-of-town (as they are in Swindon along with Costa Coffee, Starbucks, Greggs etc.) and there will be no reason to pay parking charges ever again yipee!”

“It must be an earthquake, according to your headline, to move a whole shop!! Why weren't we told?!! Were other buildings affected?”
