New Gloucester health centre opens
A BRAND new health centre has opened its doors in Gloucester.
The Gloucester Health Access Centre is situated in Eastgate House in Eastgate Street.
It provides a wide range of NHS services to registered and non-registered patients and is open from 8am to 8pm seven days a week.
A walk-in service is also available for minor ailments and injuries.
Jan Stubbings, chief executive of NHS Gloucestershire, said: "We were very pleased to have backed this move with a premises improvement grant and the Health Access Centre will now be housed in purpose-built facilities, which will enhance the patient experience.
"The centre is dedicated to encouraging healthy living and providing services to reflect that."
Dr John Unwin, member of The Gloucester GP Consortium which runs the centre, said: "We have been working with NHS Gloucestershire to take a positive approach to developing a local scheme that can contribute to meeting local health needs."

“Over the years, it has consistently been extremely difficult to see a doctor during evenings, weekends or bank holidays - unless in the case of emergency.
How wonderful that now, in Gloucester - as in Somerset - parents of young children, the chronically sick, anxious teenagers and worried pensioners etc. need no longer be afraid when illness becomes worse just as the GP surgeries close on Friday evenings.”

“Does this mean that the rikenel is soon to close then? Or is it that the NHS distribute tax payers money in the wrong direction ie another office instead of nursing staff and doctors.”

“TIG This story is running into the 3rd day and catching very little attention. Perhaps the picture was taken with the wrong aim in mind.”

“I'd be more impressed if it was an open to all dentist surgery.
This is a waste of time and public money, we have a hospital, doctors surgeries ad the rikenel. Why do we need this facility exactly?”

“A rare piece of good news these days in the public sector, but even so the Tories must not gain Gloucester or they¿ll have a Commons majority. Lib Dem, UKIP and Green supporters can safely vote Labour to stop them without Brown preserving his own majority, whereas 100 seats further up the Tory target list in Stroud voting Labour is too risky. A win there probably maintains a Labour Commons majority, so in Stroud the Tories must be supported to stop them.”
