DELIGHTED at securing a permanent deal for defender Danny Andrew, Gloucester City boss Dave Mehew has backed the defender to prove a point.

Left-back Andrew penned a deal with the Tigers until the end of the season yesterday after it was confirmed that he had left Cheltenham Town.

City were initially looking to secure the services of the 22-year-old on a further month's loan deal after a successful initial stint with the club.

But after the former Peterborough United defender agreed to a mutual termination of the remaining six months of his Robins contract he immediately penned a deal with City.

"I'm over the moon to have secured Danny on a deal until the end of the season," Mehew said.

"It was a bit of a surprise, but he realises more than anyone that he needs to get games under his belt to put him in the shop window.

"We're realistic enough and he's adult enough to know that this is a chance for him to show people what he's got, now he needs to get his head down and work hard.

"And to be fair to the lad that's what he's done since he first signed for us.

"His attitude has been spot-on and he's thrown himself into everything that we've asked him to do.

"We've had a lot of loanees that have come from Football League clubs over the years and the ones that do that go on to do well.

"Some haven't and, to be honest, I couldn't tell you where those lads are playing now."

Bagasan Graham has also extended his City stay for a further month with Mehew backing the former QPR speedster to continue his improvement.

Like Andrew, Graham has yet to taste anything but victory in a City shirt since initially linking up with the club in mid-December.

He scored a superb individual goal in the 2-1 win at Vauxhall Motors on his City debut and has looked dangerous in all three of his games to date.

"Both Danny and Bags made a good impression during their first month – those who saw Bags' goal at Vauxhall Motors will know what he is capable of.

"Bags was getting better in every game he played as he got match fitness and he will continue to do that in his second month I am sure.

"We've been able to bring these two in within the budget and that sets us up nicely for what should be a busy time when the snow clears."

After snow wiped out fixtures across the county today, there are already doubts as to whether City's game at Brackley Town on Tuesday will be able to go ahead.
