New county seat in Labour's sights
Labour politcians have a new county seat in their sights.
Cam, Dursley and Berkeley Labour Party has selected Miranda Clifton to be the Labour candidate for Cam and Berkeley - which have been combined for the 2013 elections to Gloucestershire County Council.
"I am honoured to have been chosen by Labour to stand for election in Cam and Berkeley," said Miranda. "I would look forward to working with Labour Councillors, Paul Denney and Liz Ashton, on issues that affect both areas. We must get Gloucestershire County Council to take more notice of what our local communities need - getting more jobs in both Cam and Sharpness, more efficient and longer lasting road improvements, highest quality schools and a high standard of care for older people, whether supported in their own homes or in properly regulated care homes."
Miranda is an Cam Parish councillor and has represented Cam at district level in the past.

She has also played a role in the Vale Vision community company that has attracted over half a million pounds investment to the area, and continues to work on plans in collaboration with parish and town councils for more regeneration projects.
"I hope Berkeley and Cam residents will support Miranda in the elections next year," said Berkeley district councillor, Liz Ashton. "I have worked with her on the Youth Partnership so I have seen first-hand the helpful and sensible way she gets things done for local people - she's a do-er, not a talker!"
Cam District councillor Paul Denney said he was pleased Miranda was the Labour candidate. "I have known Miranda for many years and can say with certainty that she has the experience and ability to do the work both at council meetings and locally for residents.
"She is exactly the sort of person we need - very few people can match the commitment of time, enthusiasm and hard work that she has always given to her work as a councillor. She has had a life-long involvement with community groups, working to improve the area she lives in."
