New foodbank set for Tewkesbury
FAMILIES in Tewkesbury who are suffering during the recession will receive a lifeline in the new year.
A food bank is to be started by the Trussell Trust, which will distribute donated food to people who cannot afford to feed themselves.

Each food box will contain a minimum of three days of nutritionally-balanced, non-perishable food for one person.
The team is currently looking for a base to set up operations.
Sunday and Monday evenings £12.00 per head for an all inclusive meal with Indian and Thai cuisine (normal price £14.50).

It would be run together with a new centre in the Forest of Dean, which will open at the end of January.
James Milton, the Trust's regional officer for the South West, said: "We are still in the early stages of planning, but we have plans to open one by the end of March. During the recession, when people fall on hard times, they will need some emergency food services.
"Some people might struggle during this period.
"Looking across the county, Tewkesbury was a place where the trust decided they could come and establish a food bank."
He said both centres would be set up by April, before new government initiatives in the new financial year affected charities.
The new sites will join the Trust's existing food banks, which include St George's Road, Cheltenham, Ashcroft Road, Cirencester and Naunton, as well as bases in Gloucester and Stroud.
Mr Milton said: "The new sites will be offered assistance from our existing sites.
"Going into the new year, we have high stocks in some centres, after a successful collection during the Harvest Festival.
"We have a sharing ethos among the food banks in the county to help neighbouring centres get up on their own feet."
The group will start approaching local firms for donations and will hand lists to customers outside super markets to see if they can add one or two items to their shopping bill to help those in need.
Items include pasta sauces, fruit juice, soup, cereals, rice and pasta.

“This is good news for Tewksbury, this follows the news that 2 soup kitchens are to start in Cheltenham,4 in Gloucester,and 1 in Stroud, I understand that there are several in Bristol already up and running, please do all you can to help.”

“This group does wonderful work but it's a sad sign of the times that their work is needed. Perhaps they will get a gracious visitation from Mr Robertson MP who seems to like to get his name in the paper for encouraging other people to work hard (see recent article on bountiful visit to GPO headquarters). He could turn up and tell them how well they were doing or, better still give them the £27000 he was recently overpaid for his second home allowance. I await developments in these pages with interest.”
