GO2 marketing manager Amy Budd said: “This is a road-race with ambition, Cheltenham has so much to offer runners that we expect this to become the next big Half Marathon in the South West.
"Cheltenham hasn’t been used to its full potential before but this new Half Marathon will give runners room to run, regency splendour and bags of Cotswold charm - this is a race not to be missed.”
The proposed single lap route starts and ends in Pittville Park.
Runners will go past the Grade 1 listed Pittville Pump Room, then head to the south of the borough, through the Promenade and Montpellier.
The route then loops back through the centre of Cheltenham, passing Cheltenham College, before heading out along Prestbury road.
Runners then head onto the Cheltenham Racecourse, before finishing back at Pittville Park.
“For locals, it is a chance to run free of traffic through Cheltenham’s centre and for visitors it’s a dream introduction to this lovely Regency town.
"It’s basically a sightseeing tour that opens the streets to runners.”
Cheltenham’s wide streets provide the perfect track for a spacious race and the proposed route has been designed to be mainly flat, with only two inclines, suiting most abilities.
Runners can pre-register now, to take advantage of an early bird offer at Cheltenhamhalf.co.uk

“Charming! Despite being told that this day was the final day of Heritage Open Days (a national event which has been growing in Cheltenham over the last few years) 15 September seems to have been confirmed. Talk about left hand and right hand. The council has been active in supporting and developing Heritage Open Days, yet it undermines this by making it impossible for organised walks to take place. And on the most popular day, naturally.”
