New heart scanner 'great benefit to old'
HOSPITALS' chief Frank Harsent has hailed a new scanner being used to treat patients in Gloucestershire.
The CT scanner was unveiled earlier this month after a successful £1 million fundraising drive launched by Cobalt, the charity which supports people with cancer and other life limiting conditions.
Dr Harsent told board members of the Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust yesterday that the scanner, which can be used to take images of the heart, would transform patient care.
Dr Harsent, hospitals trust chief executive, said: "We've just secured this fantastic new machine in partnership with Cobalt, which can take three-dimensional images of the heart in 0.3 seconds.
