He said: "Our existing clients in Gloucestershire, which represent around a quarter of our current business, will clearly benefit from this office opening. Our teams of engineers will be closer to these clients than ever before and at the same time will be well located to support new clients in the future."

The opening of the Gloucester base means that Frazer-Nash now has eight UK offices, including Bristol, employing nearly 500 people, plus a base in Adelaide, Australia.

One of its contracts is working as part of a consortium led by the National Nuclear Laboratory in the regulation of radioactive waste.

Gloucester is fast becoming a hub for the nuclear industry with Horizon Nuclear Power, an energy company created to develop a new generation of nuclear power stations in the UK, currently employs about 130 people at Gloucester Business Park while EDF Energy, which owns eight UK power stations, has a base at Barnwood.

Mr Gillard said: "Having a presence in Gloucestershire also gives us easier access to the regional recruitment pool, which includes engineers with strong talent in nuclear, defence and aerospace engineering.

"This is important to us as we seek to continue to expand our business and provide high-end engineering services to a greater number of organisations."
