THE completion of a £60,000 play area in Podsmead is expected to slash levels of anti-social behaviour in the community.

Work was completed at Scott Avenue play area on Tuesday and councillor Jennie Dallimore (Con, Podsmead), a mum-of-four, has welcomed the city council-funded facility.

She said: "Anti-social behaviour in Podsmead has previously been high, but we have done a lot of work to combat it.

"Having a new play park is going to help no end, and it will give youngsters something to do and somewhere to go."

In May last year, work on the Multi-Use Games Area in Scott Avenue, was completed after more than five years work.

The play area in Milton Avenue has also undergone a makeover recently.

Gloucestershire county councillor Gerald Dee (Con. Podsmead) believes the new play area is something the community should be proud of.

He said: "It is a valuable and important facility for the young people, particularly in Podsmead.

"They deserve quality facilities of this sort, and that is exactly what they have got."

Gloucester Police Sergeant Lucie Koeltgen, said: "Supporting areas such as this, which give young people places outdoors that they can go and socialise and enjoy themselves, can help see the quality of young people's lives improve and in turn subsequently see a reduction in anti-social behaviour."

“sorry kay but I am most definitely not Dall2011 and would not hide behind an alias to give my comments. I most certainly would not make the comments that you refer to. Kind Regards
    Jennie”

“Jennie, I agree that all children should have somewhere nice to play and that helps alleviate boredom and ASB. Does that apply to Star66 as well? It was closed by the Tory controlled county council, and stangely someone calling him/herself Dall2011 has been very rude about the building on this very website. The same person has been rude about Councillor Mark Hobbs, supported Councillor Pam Tracey, been extremely rude about Matson on a number of occasions, and said that people should live within their means. If that isn't you, then you should really complain to TiG, as it must be a troll pretending to be you!”

“So a playground that is usually used by pre-teens is going to stop anti-social behaviour! Must be a terrifying time in Podsmead when the primary schools finish for the day!”

“Anybody want to bet against a headline in the next few weeks reporting that a new play area costing £60k has been trashed by yobs?”

“Kay- no election for me until 2014 and then the community can decide whether I did something for them or not, which means did I do the job I got elected and paid to do... and did I do it better than my predecessor?
Kay- Matson and Kingsholm just had a new play area... Labour/Lib Dem councillors..so your theory doesn't stand up...
No business case here other than the play area being scored as the worst in the city for play value and we asked for a new one... The Citizen took the line on reducing ASB- I take the line that all children should have somewhere nice to play and that helps alleviate boredom and potentially ASB.. anything from hanging out on a neighbours wall or kicking a football against someones door.”

    “Darrglos,
No, it's mainly areas with Tory councillors (or wannabe concillors), so they can boast about what they've done for the community as an election looms. I'm thinking particularly of Linden here...”

“Seems only areas where the is ASB problems get money spent on them. So its nice to see bad behavior is rewared by the tune of £60,000.”

“What a wondeful facility. Perhaps funding was granted on a business case that suggested a reduction in ASB would follow. Although this will bring benefit to the under 10's in the Podsmead area, I think it slightly deluded to think bored unemployed 16 yr olds will suddenly feel part of society as they play on the swings ( at 3 in the morning ) swigging a litre of cheap cider and adding a bit of mis spelt graffiti to the see-saw.”
