New shop to bring a 'touch of style' to Worcester Street
HIGH streets nationwide have dwindled as online shops take over – but one Gloucestershire couple are hoping they can buck the trend.
Husband and wife, Tom and Abi Smith, have sidelined their online children's clothing shop in favour of setting up a new store called A Touch of Style in Worcester Street, Gloucester.
The pair said although they would carry on with their online shop, the high street was where it was happening.
Abi, who is from Tewkesbury, said: "With the online business we never had that face-to-face interaction with our customers – we simply didn't know who they were. It would all be very anonymous, putting products into the post.

"We found increasingly that suppliers wanted us to have a base, so we decided that opening a shop would be a great idea.
"We come to Gloucester to do our shopping, so we figured this would be a good place to set up.
"There isn't really much in Tewkesbury and we felt that this is where it is really happening."
The store opens today and for the first three weeks will be open seven days a week, from 10am until 5pm on Monday to Saturday and until 4pm on Sunday.
"We want to see what it is like to open on a Sunday for the first three weeks and then we will decide what to do from there," said Abi.
Their shop opening comes just a fortnight after the haberdashery Busy Needle relocated to its original Worcester Street home after a spell on nearby Northgate Street.
City councillor Pam Tracey (C, Westgate) said: "I think that it is wonderful that Worcester Street is coming to life once again with a new business and Busy Needle returning.
"It just goes to show that people are taking a chance with the high street again and we should wholeheartedly support them in their endeavours."
