New surface will be pitch perfect
NEWENT Community School and Sixth Form Centre have secured £40,000 from Sport England's Inspired Facilities Fund to help refurbish the school's artificial playing surface.
One of the main beneficiaries will be Newent Hockey Club, who have used the school facilities as their home base since the original pitch was laid in 1999.
The club are thriving and the recent Olympic success for Team GB has seen an upsurge in interest to play the sport.
Newent Hockey Club will be holding their annual club day at the school pitch on Sunday, September 9 from 11.30am and potential new members are welcome to go along.
Sunday and Monday evenings £12.00 per head for an all inclusive meal with Indian and Thai cuisine (normal price £14.50).
