INTERNET chatter is hinting at the launch of an Occupy Stroud movement.

Messages flying to and fro on the Facebook networking site suggest a possible meeting or demonstration at the top of the High Street on February 18.

An earlier attempt by resident Leisa Wakeling to start Occupy Stroud failed to gain momentum.

She says she is not involved in the new discussions.

Stroud district councillor and Green Party member Philip Booth said he understood the messaging was to stimulate debate around the anti-capitalist issue. He said: "I am away in Devon and can't be there but I understood the meeting is to discuss what might be done."

A Don't Occupy Stroud Facebook group has also started to block any protest action.

“Listen up people, ConcreteGold speaks THE TRUTH. He knows that the Illuminati and their shadowy evil henchmen are poised and waiting to take over Stroud. It all started with them releasing big cats into the countryside to mess with our heads. Who knows where it will end?

Stay strong ConcreteGold my friend, stay strong. You and the other brave heroes of Occupy Stroud are the last line of defence between us and the dark forces that are waiting to enslave us all. One day they will erect a statue to you and your kind, but for now they just think you are some sort of dope befuddled unwashed loser. They underestimate you at their peril. Keep the faith.”

“Wow, I bet the government and the global military economic complex is really quaking in their boots at the the thought of a handful of hippy tree huggers and spotty students camping in Stroud.

Go and stick it to The Man guys - you make those Egyptians, Libyans and Syrians look like a bunch of half ****d lightweights.”

“Why would it work in Stroud when it hasn't worked in Bristol, Plymouth, and Exeter to name but a few?”

“As opposed to the Occupy London movement, where the weed smoking toffs left their tents overnight to go home to mummy and daddies £2m des. res. This lot would only be too pleased with a leaking wigwam to huddle under and sing anti-protest songs while getting off their faces.”
