'Outsiders' joining the force concerns
PROPOSED changes to police recruitment have received a frosty reception in Gloucestershire.
Government plans announced yesterday would see the increased fast-tracking of promising recruits to the rank of inspector in three years and allow officers from other countries like the USA to apply for chief constable jobs.
However, the change causing the most concern in the county is the idea to allow outsiders to join the force at the rank of superintendent with just 15 months of training.
Graham Riley, secretary of Gloucestershire Police Federation, said: "What we are concerned about is the prospect of people coming in with no policing experience making decisions.

"Someone coming through the ranks gains experience by doing the job, but if you are a member of the public, which is effectively what these people will be, they won't have that experience."

“Bad move!
This country of ours invented Bobbies and we don't need advice from countries that are ruled by a gun.
Our coppers are,mostly,unarmed. It's a British thing.
Don't fix what ain't broke is the only thing from foreigners that we need to adopt.”
