PUPILS from Lakeside Primary School are keeping up with the latest technology – thanks to its Parents and Teachers' Association (PTA).

The PTA has bought 20 new LearnPad computers, worth £6,000 for the Hatherley Road school.

The LearnPads are specifically designed for education and allow schools to block pupils from accessing applications not explicitly authorised by teachers.

It also prevents the pupils changing device settings, which could otherwise stop the device working or cause confusion.

The new LearnPads are now being used in every classroom of the school.

Events such as the summer and Christmas fair, non-uniform days along with school discos have helped pay for the new equipment for the 400 children, aged 4 to 11, at the school.

The PTA was helped with the donation by Crest Nicholson, which is developing new houses on Cold Pool Lane by a £750 donation.

Golden Valley-based Easy Mix concrete suppliers also stumped up £350.

Acting headteacher Geraint Mills said: "They will go a long way towards helping the PTA provide things for the children such as the new LearnPad tablet computers, which are being used in every classroom.

"We are very grateful to both Crest Nicholson and Easy Mix for their generous donations."

The housing developer has also invited pupils to visit the new development to show the children how homes are built.
